In a nutshell...
I'm an award-winning personal finance writer and editor with more than a decade of experience in the industry. I also became a Certified Personal Finance Counselor in 2019. I spent the early years of my career as the editor-in-chief of personal finance site GOBankingRates.com. I then joined Student Loan Hero as their sixth employee in 2015, where I helped grow the editorial strategy and team from the ground up. In 2018, LendingTree bought Student Loan Hero for more than $60 million.
I then decided to focus on what I love most (writing, duh) and joined HuffPost as a reporter covering money, home and living. After three awesome years, I decided to go off on my own and become a full-time freelancer. A few beats I'm known for covering: Multilevel marketing (as in, why it's not good), the intersection of money and feminism, and improving transparency within the personal finance industry. Other topics I cover include banking, budgeting, credit, credit cards, debt, general lifestyle, homeownership/mortgages, insurance, investing, retirement, saving money, student loans, and more. |
In addition to writing and editing, I'm also pretty comfy in front of a camera (or behind a mic). I was a speaker at the 2013, 2015, and 2017 Financial Blogger Conferences (FinCon). I also hosted the Resilience 2020 panel on personal finance, and served as an expert on the Journalist and Social Media Content Creators panel at the 2020 #MLMConf. You can also catch me on many podcasts related to finance, MLMs, and journalism.
P.S. I was the winner of the 2019 Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting award in the online category, as well as a finalist in the Folio Eddie Awards for range of work by a single author. |
